Master of Science in Tropical Medicine

his degree program answers the need for an intensive study of various microbes, parasites and insects causing tropical diseases particularly in the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region.

The program consists of 40 units distributed as follows:

A. Core courses (12 units)
 
Stat 201 Fundamental Statistics 3 units
ResMeth 201 Research Methods 3 units
Epi 201 Principles of Epidemiology 3 units
HCS 201 Foundation of Health Care Systems 3 units

B. Major courses (16 units)
 
TropMed 201 Emerging & Re-emerging Infectious Diseases 3 units
TropMed 202 Vehicle-borne Infectious Diseases 3 units
TropMed 203 Epidemiology and Control of Vector-borne Diseases 3 units
TropMed 204 Insect Allergy, Snake Bites & Other Envenomization 3 units
TropMed 205 Non-communicable Disorders 3 units
TropMed 299 Seminars in Tropical Medicine 1 unit

C. Electives (6 units)*
 
ICT 201 Technical Report/Research Writing & Computer Literacy 1 unit
HPEduc Principles of Health Education 2 units

*plus other subjects of the student’s choice from the other program tracts.


D. Thesis (6 units)
The strategies for learning are lectures, interactive sessions and workshops with emphasis on problem solving skills. The program can be completed in 7 trimesters.

Master of Science in Asian Health Practices

This degree program orients the students to traditional and indigenous health practices that can be integrated to conventional medicine. Courses in this tract include history, principles and concepts and practical applications of these practices. Strong values formation and skills training are also emphasized.

The program consists of 40 units distributed as follows:

AHP 203 Traditional Chinese Medicine 2 (Advance Course) 3 units
AHP 204 Compendium of Herbal Formulary 3 units
AHP 205 Nutritional Epidemiology, Planning & Management 3 units
AHP 206 Oriental Massage & Exercises: Principles, Theories & Practices 3 units
AHP 299 Seminars in Oriental Health Care 1 unit

C. Electives (3 units)*

D. Thesis (6 units)
The strategies for learning are lectures, interactive sessions and workshops with emphasis on problem solving skills. The program can be completed in 7 trimesters.


Masters in Health Science Education

This degree program aims to develop in the students the skills and competence in areas such as curriculum development, classroom management, educational research and evaluation as these relate to the health field.

The program consists of 38 units distributed as follows:

IV. In place of Thesis Writing, course work of 6 units on Evidenced-Base Nursing is required of a student.

            Comprehensive examination is required after completion of all Academic Requirements.
