The Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery Program (MBBS)


About | Nature of the MBBS | Courses Leading to the Degree of MBBS

 

To accommodate the requirements for the medical education of foreign nationals, a new program, Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), that is consistent with the standard curriculum in India, has been created and established specifically for the Indian clientele. The program satisfies the requirements of the Medical Council of India, approved by the Philippines’ Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The program is designed for Indian students graduating from the course to qualify for the Screening Test conducted by the National Board of Examinations of India.

OBJECTIVE

To develop an undergraduate program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery specifically for Indian nationals initially. The program shall satisfy the requirements for an international medical education and specifically that of the Medical Council of India.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE MBBS PROGRAM

At the end of the program the learner shall be able to:
  1. Diagnose and manage common health problems of the individual and the community appropriate to his position as member of the health team in the primary, secondary or tertiary level.
  2. Practice with confidence preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative medicine with respect to commonly encountered health problems.
  3. Practice evidence-based medicine, appreciating the rationale for the different therapeutic modalities and technologies; be adept with the use of essential drugs; and understand the pharmacodynamics and kinetics of these drugs.
  4. Appreciate the psychosocial, cultural, economic and environmental factors influencing health of individuals, families and communities.
  5. Develop a humane attitude towards patients and their relatives in disharging professional responsibilities.
  6. Develop an understanding of global health concerns, the various national health programs and the strategies utilized for their implementation.
  7. Acquire basic management skills in the area of health resource and services delivery.
  8. Demonstrate adequate communication skills with patients, their families and communities as well as with the other members of the health team.
  9. Practice medical ethics in patient care, health service delivery and research.
  10. Develop attitude for lifelong, self-directed learning.
