Scholarships


To help deserving students, the College provides honorific scholarships to students who excel in the academe; grants-in-aid for deserving students, and various scholarship grants given by the UERMMMC Medical Alumni Foundation (USA) and the Alumni Association of America. A Special Honors Award is also given to freshmen students with high GWA (general weighted average) and NMAT (National Medical Aptitude Test) scores.

I.  President Dalupan Entrance Scholarship

  1. Full Scholarships – This entitles the awardee to free full tuition and    laboratory fees for the 1st semester and is granted to incoming Freshmen who fulfill the following requirements:
    a) General Weighted Average (GWA) – 1.0-1.50 (computed by UERM)
    b)  no individual grade below 2.5 and
    c)  NMAT score of 90th percentile.
  2. To be entitled to the same discount in the 2nd semester of the first year, the awardee must have a:
    a)  weighted average of the 1st semester work of 1.45 or better
    b)  no grade below 2.5 (including final grade of semestral subjects and midyear grade of yearly subjects).

     

  3. Partial Scholarships– This entitles the awardee to 50% discount on   tuition and laboratory fees for the 1st semester and is granted to incoming Freshmen who fulfill the following requirements:
    a) General Weighted Average (GWA) – 1.0-1.50 (computed by UERM) b) no individual grade below 2.5 and NMAT score of 85-  89th percentile.
    Or
    a) General Weighted Average (GWA) – 1.51-1.75 (computed by UERM) b) No individual grade below 2.5 c) NMAT of 85% or above To be entitled to the same discount in the 2nd semester of the first year, the awardee must have a weighted average of the 1st semester work of 1.75 or better and no grade below 2.5 (including final grade of semestral subjects and midyear grade of yearly subjects).

II.  Scholarships for Academic Excellence

  1. Full Scholarship – Any student with a weighted average grade of 1.45 or better at the end of the academic year just completed is entitled to free tuition fee and laboratory fees for one semester in the succeeding school year upon the recommendation of the Committee on Scholarships and Academic Honors, with the concurrence of the Dean, College of Medicine and approval of the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Center.
  2. Partial Scholarship – Any student with a   weighted average grade     of 1.75 or better at the end of the academic year just completed is entitled to 50% discount on tuition and laboratory fees for one semester in the succeeding year upon recommendation of the Committee on Scholarships and    Academic Honors, with the concurrence of the Dean, College of Medicine and approval of the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Center.

    For both scholarships, the student should have no grade below 2.5.

III. Grants-in-Aid

  1. Grants-in-Aid are for financially deserving students in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years.  This scholarship entitles a qualified student of 15% to 80% discount on tuition and laboratory fees.  Eligible students are interviewed and recommended by the Committee on Scholarships and Academic Honors, with the concurrence of the Dean, College of Medicine and approval of the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Center.  Application forms are available at the Dean’s Office.
    1. Requirements for Grants-in-Aid:

    2. Accomplished application form.
    3. The applicant must be a Filipino citizen
    4. He/She must be currently enrolled student (2nd, 3rd and 4th year)
    5. He/She must have passed all subjects taken in the  school year immediately preceeding the awarding of the grant, i.e. he must be eligible for promotion to the next higher year of the medical curriculum.  An unsatisfactory (U) grade in any of the continuing subjects will disqualify a student from the grant.
    6. Income Tax Return of parents for at least 3 years
    7. Interview with the Committee on Scholarships and Academic Honors

IV. UERMMMC Medical Alumni Association of  America, Inc. Scholars

  1. Partial Scholarship Grant – This consists of partial subsidy for tuition and other school fees to students in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year with the following qualifications:

      • good moral character
      • average grades
      • financially needy
  2. Book Scholarship Grant – This is awarded to 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students for book expenses who have satisfied the following criteria:
      • good moral character
      • average grades
      • financially needy
    Students who received the above scholarship grants may apply for the same grants for the following school year provided they pass all subjects.
    The Committee on Scholarships and Academic Honors shall choosethe grantees from the applicants for Grants-in-Aid and recommend these to the Dean for approval.
  3. Special Honors Award – This is given to freshmen students who have excellent academic performance in the baccalaureate degrees but do not qualify for the Pres. Francisco Dalupan
  4. Entrance Scholarships.  This award entitles a qualified freshman  
    student to partial tuition fee for one semester.   The Dean shall        choose the    awardees from the list of applicants based on the     following criteria from selection:
      • GWA of 1.8 or better
      • NMAT percentile mark of 90 or higher
      • Interview with the Committee on Scholarships and Academic Honors
  5. Gold and Silver Scholarships for Academic Excellence

    This grant is awarded as early as the 2nd semester in the first year to Special Honors Award recipients who have attained excellent academic standing.  They are selected by the members of the Committee on Scholarships and Academic Honors.  The Gold Scholarship awardees receive $2,000.00 a year while Silver Scholarship receive $1,000.00 a year.  The following are the sponsors of these scholarship grants thru the Alumni Foundation in the U.S.A., Inc. (AFUSA).

V.   Other Scholarships

      • North Texas Association of Philippine Physicians – awarded to incoming  second semester 1st year student
      • UERM Medical Foundation, Inc. (Northeast Chapter)
      • Association of Philippine Physicians in Ohio (APPO) – awarded to incoming 2nd  semester first year student
      • Merck Sharp and Dohme
      • Sigma Beta Sorority
    These renewable scholarships shall be   granted to students who fulfill these criteria:
    • Special Honors Award Recipient
    • Good moral character
    • GWA at year end of no less than 2.25, no grades lower than 2.75
    • Financially needy
    • Excellent Academic standing

    Application forms are available at the Dean’s Office starting second semester of the school year.  Eligible candidates are interviewed and recommended by the Committee on scholarships and Academic Honors.  The eligible candidates will then be endorsed by the Dean to the respective associations in the United States who will then give the final approval.
