Putting in a Good Word
for the
College of Nursing…


In its December 12, 2006 issue, the Philippine Daily Inquirer published a report by Christian V. Esguerra titled “Leakage scandal doesn’t faze alien nursing students.” The news item puts in a good word for Philippine nursing colleges in general and the UERMMMC College of Nursing in particular. Mr. Esguerra reported that, despite the “leakage scandal” earlier this year involving last June’s nursing licensure board exam, many US-based Filipinos continue to send their children here to study nursing. In the report, UERMMMC was mentioned as among the top three nursing schools by Rosario-May Mayor, the President of the Philippine Nurses Association of America.

The reason for this continued trend? Comparatively affordable education over here. The report quotes UERMMMC Nursing Dean Carmelita C. Divinagracia, who said that tuition rates for nursing students at the Medical Center are comparatively lower than those of US schools. The full news item can be viewed at
