The Curriculum Committee of the College of Nursing, along with the Faculty Development Committee, sponsored a three-day Strategic Planning Workshop last November 3 to 5, 2006. Participating were faculty members teaching general education as well as professional courses, along with supervisors and headnurses of the Nursing Service with the Chief Nurse.
The President of the Medical Center, Dr. Romeo A. Divinagracia, as the guest speaker led the group in revisiting the strategic directions of the Medical Center, re-emphasizing the vision-mission of becoming a World-Class Education and Training Center. It also challenged the Nursing Service to achieve zero-complaint patient care.
To strengthen the coordination and collaboration between edu-cation and service, a workshop in identifying expected competencies per year level was held. Actively participating were the headnurses, who are strong partners of the College of Nursing in facilitating the related learning experiences of nursing students.
The faculty teaching the General Education course likewise conceptualized the integration of their subject matters in line with the objectives of the professional courses—to harmonize the course contents, activities and requirements based on the core competencies of the BSN curriculum.
The culminating activity of this seminar-workshop was team-building, which served to redefine and clarify the job descriptions under the different positions in the College of Nursing.
