Nursing Has New College Secretary

Mr. Jesson V. Butcon

The College of Nursing has a new College Secretary starting June 1, 2006, after Prof. Mary Josephine M. Famorca resigned from her 10-year stint as the most able assistant of Dean Carmel Divinagracia. She is now working in one of the premier hospitals in Arizona, USA as Assistant Director for Nursing Service.

The new College of Nursing College Secretary is Mr. Jesson V. Butcon, a faculty member of the College for almost three years now.

He completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of the Philippines as a consistent university scholar and finished in 5th Place in the June 2001 Nurse Licensure Examination. He then balanced professional work with his pursuit of graduate studies in Applied Behavioral Science at De La Salle University, which he completed in 2005. At present, he is an Assistant Professor in Nursing and is currently working on his doctoral program in Educational Leadership and Management at DLSU.

Indeed, this significant develop-ment embodies an interesting contradiction: While the current Dean is the College’s first alumna dean, the present College Secretary is the College’s first non-alumnus College Secretary. Hopefully, this “experimentation” will reap good results as the College aspires to achieve “megastar success” in making the UERMMMC College of Nursing the apex and the base of nursing education in the Philippines.
