Joanna Padilla an alumna of CAHP at UERM, received the Quarterly Values in Practice Distinction.

Joanna Rose Padilla is a Medical Laboratory Scientist whose expertise bridges clinical diagnostics and molecular genomics. Her dedication was recently recognized with the Values in Practice Quarterly State Award from the Australian Genome Research Facility.

Originally from the Philippines, she migrated to Australia to pursue further education and professional growth. Before relocating, she worked as a Medical Technologist in the Philippines, gaining valuable experience across multiple pathology disciplines, particularly microbiology. This solid foundation, paired with her skills in clinical diagnostics and molecular genomics, has shaped her into a well-rounded expert in laboratory medicine, from pinpointing diseases to unraveling complex genetic codes.

She is now a Scientist at a leading genomic research facility in Australia, specializing in Sanger sequencing, a gold‑standard method for DNA sequence analysis. Joanna manages the end‑to‑end sequencing workflow, ensuring samples are processed accurately and efficiently while upholding the highest standards of quality and laboratory practice.

Her responsibilities span multiple stages of the sequencing process, including sample preparation, reaction setup, purification, capillary electrophoresis, and data interpretation. She also contributes to quality assessment, troubleshooting, and compliance with laboratory management systems.

Driven by a passion for learning and adaptability, she has successfully navigated a new healthcare landscape and built a steadfast commitment to foster supportive, patient-centered healthcare settings.
