As part of good publication practices, all editors of the UERMMMC Health Sciences Journal (Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors) are required to disclose on an annual basis, any potential conflict of interest, including current or recent financial relationships with any commercial entity whose products or services may be contained in the journal content. Disclosure represents a commitment to transparency and does not necessarily indicate a bias. This policy follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Reviewers must assess potential conflicts of interest before accepting a manuscript for review and disclose any that may affect their impartiality. If a conflict exists, they should decline the review. Reviewers are expected to follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers, maintain confidentiality, and avoid using or sharing unpublished data. They must not use the peer review process to advance their own work or require citations to their own publications unless genuinely relevant.
All authors must disclose any financial, personal, institutional, or intellectual conflicts of interest related to the manuscript. This includes ownership of stocks, consultancy roles, honoraria, travel support, patent rights, or other benefits from products discussed. Non-financial conflicts—such as personal relationships, institutional affiliations, or ideological beliefs—should also be declared. If no conflicts exist, a statement to that effect must be included in the manuscript.
