Reman I. Altar, MSN, RN
Nurse Clinician, McGill University Health Centre
Founder, R Altar Nursing Review Center

One of the best decisions that I made in my life was to pursue my postgraduate study in Nursing in my beloved alma mater, UERMMMCI. My undergraduate years under this highly-esteemed institution honed my foundational knowledge and skills as a nurse. On the other hand, my postgraduate years prepared me towards being an efficient educator and leader in my field. Those lessons I learned from my professors prepared me to face the challenges brought about by my current professional endeavors.
During my graduate school years at the UERM, I met many individuals and professors who are leaders in their field of expertise. I subscribe to their belief that a leader must be a catalyst for positive change. They inspired me to be a leader amongst my fellow nurses, especially in the arena of public service.
I became a better and efficient teacher because of my postgraduate studies. My understanding regarding pathophysiology and nursing management became advanced, thanks to our adult health in nursing subjects. Moreover, the results of my research study gave me an understanding of the relationship between nurses’ critical thinking skills and clinical judgment. These results serve as the foundation of my teaching strategies that I am currently applying to my students in the R. Altar Nursing Review center here in Montreal, Canada, to which I am the founder and lecturer. I am also analyzing my students’ performance through various statistics, which I learned during our advanced statistics subject, enabling me to monitor their progress and increase their probability of passing their nursing licensure examinations.
Having higher knowledge in the field of nursing helped me land a nurse clinician job in one of the largest medical institution here in Canada, the McGill University Health Centre. It also helped me to be qualified as a member of certain professional organizations such as the Sigma Theta Tau, the honor society of nursing.
Being a Master of Science in Nursing graduate of the UERM graduate school, led me towards the path of success. Having a postgraduate degree gave me tremendous opportunities that enable me to grow both personally and professionally.
Thank you to my beloved alma mater, UERMMMCI!

My graduate degree from UERM gave me the credentials that helped my professional growth. I am where I am now because of what I learned from the UERM grad school. I graduated in 2014 with solid understanding of research and critical thinking processes. Beyond the academic experience, I also gained friends from my classmates, lecturers and staff.

Research Colloquium Lectures
The Graduate School has been conducting Research Colloquium lectures that aim to provide the
graduate students and faculty with research-oriented lectures on topics that are usually not taken up in
their programs. They aim to augment the learning of all graduate students and health care professionals
on updates and topics relevant to health care education and health care delivery and to inspire students
to take on research topics for their thesis research.
Professional Seminar for Faculty Development
Professional development seminars for graduate school faculty development are designed to enhance
the skills, knowledge, and effectiveness of educators. These seminars focus on improving teaching
practices, staying current with research trends, fostering leadership abilities, and addressing challenges
in higher education. Topics often include effective pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment methods,
mentorship strategies, digital tools for teaching, and diversity and inclusion practices. The goal is to
support faculty in their roles as researchers, mentors, and educators, ultimately contributing to the
